Funeral insurance not only provides cover for the costs of the funeral or cremation, but also takes all concerns about this out of the hands of the next of kin.
What does a funeral cost?
A funeral in Spain usually costs between € 3,000 and € 6,000. This includes the funeral service, cremation, coffin, coffin carriers, flowers, funeral cards, obituary, thanks, support vehicles and a tombstone. There are extra options to insure.
Payment in the event of death
You pay a monthly premium and, in the event of death, the funeral insurance is paid in kind. This means that no money is paid out. The insurer works together with various funeral directors who arrange the funeral together with the next of kin.
Repatriation abroad
If you live in Spain as a English, Dutch or Belgian citizen and you prefer to be buried or cremated in England the Netherlands or Belgium upon death, you can also choose to be repatriated to your home country. Keep in mind that the costs for the funeral in the Netherlands / Belgium are still for your own account
Is funeral insurance necessary?
You can of course just put money aside, but with a funeral insurance policy it is not so much the costs of the funeral or cremation that are reimbursed, but in particular the worries that are taken off your hands. That way, the next of kin can focus on a nice goodbye.
